Become a Writing Center Consultant

Who can work at the Writing Center?

Writing Center Consultants come from all backgrounds and disciplines, and may be graduate or undergraduate level students. Working at the Writing Center is a paid position. It is not a work study position, so you need not be work study approved to become a consultant. All you need is a love of writing, and a desire to help fellow students.

How do I get started?

Consultants usually start training by enrolling in A&S 300/WRD 324, Writing Center Peer Tutoring. Students in the course are actively involved in reading, writing, listening, observing, speaking, researching, presenting, and shadowing as they become immersed in the theory and practice of Writing Center work.

Exemptions from the course are considered if students can document that they have completed an equivalent course or developed necessary skills in another location. For more information, contact Judy Gatton Prats, Director.
